L.A. (Los Angeles, baby!) …”LA LA LA”

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Wow, what a week !  5 days in Los Angeles, more Darth Vader and Sidewalk Stars than Aladdin can shake a magic carpet at !! hahaha
So the week started with the filming of several segments for the new reality TV show “Almost Famous” starring Bernadette Brennan… the crew followed me through Hollywood, sitting for a meeting with Bernadette and my new radio promoter, doing our hair at Blo, and vibing with kooky characters in Hermosa Beach…
The week then continued with the LA Music Awards nomination ceremony, it was awesome performing at the infamous Whisky A Go Go on Sunset strip. I feel so privileged to have received two nominations, for “International Artist of the Year” and “Music Video of the Year” for La La La… The LA Music Awards night is at the end of October, another trip to LA is a for-sure !!
… And of course, a week in LA would not be complete without a few Hollywood celebrities and checking out the clothing stores!! Yeah !   Back home for a few weeks now, gonna try and enjoy some Kiwi sunshine before heading back over to tour Europe and the USA in May…   Hope you guys are all well!   Heaps of Love, Anita xx

Back in New York…oh yeeeaaahhh, baby !…love the lights, the nightlife, the action! So on with the show !
This one is at one of the city’s landmark music venues, Arelene’s Grocery, a converted bodega in NYC’s lower east side…an amazing vibe…a great stage, lights and sound…it was rocking!  I had the privilege of working with a (new) killer band, another group of amazing musicians all uniting to help me showcase in the Big Apple…one the back up singer for Amy Grant; one who played for Lauren Hill; one who has worked with so many great artists including Alicia Keys, Sarah McLachlan, Rob Thomas…again I felt extremely humbled and privileged to be backed and energized by such amazing talent… We did a live recording and video-taping of the 45 minute set, a little eye and ear candy, will post it for the seeing real soon !!
Thanks so much my faithful brothers and sisters for all the beautiful comments that came flooding in regarding the performance…Its so nice to know that I have such supportive people around me, and fans who come trekking around the globe with me when I’m away from home…Knowing you guys are behind me means everything to me !
OK it’s off to Los Angeles for an awards ceremony, a tv show taping, and a giant roller-coaster or two !! Woo-hoo ! … all coming in the next installment my peeps !
Love you long time, Sincerely,
Anita xx

CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK … Not Just For Canadians !!! :)

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

After our appearance on CTV’s Canada AM television show (6:30am stage call, say what ???… hahaha) I was so excited to be singing again in Toronto! The Canadian Music Week Festival invited us to perform in two prestigious venues, Toronto’s “Hard Rock Cafe” on Thursday the 10th and the wonderful “Opera House” on Saturday the 12th…The Canadian vibe, man it was really super strong, the band and I had alot of fun…Pink’s rhythm guitarist Kat Lucas sat in with us for the gigs in T.O., she was fab !…
Melissa, our roving PR monster machine, scored us a second fantastic TV appearance this week, an interview on CITY TV’s (part of the CTV network) popular national entertainment show “Out There” with Melissa DiMarco …. Such a gracious host, and so interactive 🙂 What a thrill !
The last performance was on Indie Love Radio, a live simulcast broadcast from the media suite set up for CMW at the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto…. What a riot, what great energy !! …Some really fantastic muscians….lots of links and photos below for you to view…
I’m very much looking forward to the next time I’m with you guys again, my Torontonians….Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the welcome and the great affection and support!! …. and oh yeah,  my gift to you, my newest video, “Destiny”, it’s now rotating on MuchMusic and rocking the Canadian TV-waves !
Next stop…New York….pizza, pretzels, here I come!!
All my love,

When they say “CANADA AM”, they really man AM !!!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

It’s been just over one month, and here I am back in Canada….this time in the East in Toronto Canada…
My tickets already booked, I received a call from my publicist telling me that the nationally televised morning show “Canada AM” had asked for me to come perform live on their show! What a mammoth honor, last week they had Adele and KT Tunstall…so as you can imagine I was very excited…After 24 hours travelling from Wellington to get to Toronto, I went straight into rehearsals with my new Canadian band to prepare for the show the next day…
4.30am the next morning (there should be a law against that), I’m preparing for my debut on Canadian TV. Although it was early I must say they have wonderful people working at CTV Canada … I don’t know how they do it this early every day !! They must have some “farmer” in them :):) hahaha
I was very grateful to have a fantastic band, thanks to my producer and traps man Ron Thaler for musical directing all this so totally last minute, awesome ! Sitting in with us on guitarist/keys was Kat Lucas from Pink’s touring band, she did an amazing job and rocked the house !
So next is the Canadian Music Week shows…but more on that soon…

All my love,

Christchurch Tribute… and Courageous Courtney

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Well this diary entry is done with a lot of sadness and a heart full of love and admiration for all my friends and family who have had to endure the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand…

I live in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand…and it is known that we live over a fault line and could experience an earthquake at any time…but apparently Christchurch never knew they had one before all these quakes started.

My sister who just returned to NZ after several years overseas settled in Christchurch with her husband just a week before the disaster struck.  Along with my other family members there, they endured a 6.3 earthquake on February 22.  Today the death toll has risen to 163 and search and rescue teams are still tirelessly working to help find loved ones.

When the earthquake hit my cousin Courtney, 17, was all alone.  She tried texting and phoning her family but phone lines were not working…in a desperate attempt to find someone, she thought she’d try and make her way to her dad’s work.  She walked miles through aftershocks, debris, and desperate people everywhere until she got to the CDB of Christchurch.  When she got there she found her dad helping people.  He was working furiously to save peoples lives, he’s a doctor.  Courtney stayed and helped her dad…holding on to people that were dying and telling them “just stay with me” every time they were falling asleep.  The room started to full up with more and more dead bodies, and she continued to be a champion for Christchurch…being there for people in their last moments.

Many people, like Courtney, stayed in dangerous places to help others… know that we are right behind you, from here, from afar, know that you are not alone.  We love you and will do everything we can to support you through this hard time.

Along with other Volunteer organisations the Salvation Army has been working day and night, providing food, shelter and support for the victims of the Christchurch quake.  If you would like to donate to help them continue their very noble efforts, the details are in the web link below.

Stay strong in faith and love…

Love and respect,

Anita xx
